December 3rd is the birthday of France Prešeren, Slovenia's national poet, and the day the country's cultural institutions open their doors for free. Museums, galleries, and theaters across Slovenia participate, many with special programs.
What to expect
- Free admission to participating museums, galleries, and theaters nationwide
- Special tours and programs at many institutions
- Previous editions have included: in Ljubljana, the National Museum, the National Gallery, the Museum of Modern Art, the City Museum, and the Museum of Natural History; in Kranj, the Prešeren House; in Piran, the Maritime Museum; and in Maribor, the Regional Museum and the Art Gallery. Participating institutions vary by year, so check the list in advance.
