Living nativity scene in Postojna Cave

Six days a year, Postojna Cave transforms into a stage. Along the five-kilometer route through the cave, over a hundred people perform eighteen scenes from the Christmas story, from the Annunciation to the manger. You travel the first three and a half kilometers by cave train, and the final one and a half on foot. A performance lasts ninety minutes.

What to expect

• Performances from December 25th to 30th, multiple times a day starting at 1:30 PM.
• Eighteen biblical scenes, from the Annunciation to the manger.
• Over a hundred performers daily.
• Three and a half kilometers by cave train, followed by one and a half kilometers on foot.
• Ninety minutes per performance.
• In addition to the scenes, there are instrumental and vocal performances, as well as dance.
• Around 23,000 visitors are expected during those six days (2025 edition).

Book well in advance, as the living nativity scene is only held for six days with a limited number of performances. And dress accordingly: it is cold in the cave, regardless of the weather outside.
